A Clockwork Orange – Alex’s Mum Quotes
Alex is disturbed by a knock at his bedroom door:
Alex: What d’you want?
Mum: It’s past eight, Alex, you don’t want to be late for school, son.
Alex: Bit of pain in the gulliver, Mum. Leave us be and I’ll try to sleep it off… then I’ll be as right as dodgers for this after.
Mum: You’ve not been to school all week, son.
Alex: I’ve got to rest, Mum… got to get fit, otherwise I’m liable to miss a lot more school.
Mum: Eeee… I’ll put your breakfast in the oven. I’ve got to be off myself now.
Alex: Alright, Mum… have a nice day at the factory.
Alex’s parents don’t seem particularly knowledgeable about what he gets up to in his spare time:
Mum: He’s not feeling too good again this morning, Dad.
Dad: Yes, I heard. D’you know what time he got in last night?
Mum: No I don’t know, luv, I’d taken my sleepers.
Dad: I wonder, where exactly is it he goes to work of evenings?
Mum: Well, like he says, it’s mostly odd things he does, helping like, here and there as it might be.
Alex is released from prison, and the brainwashing program, and returns home to his parents. He gags nauseously as he raises his fist, after being riled by Joe:
Dad: Are you all right, lad?
Mum: Dad…it’s the treatment.
Joe (the lodger): Well, it’s disgusting. I mean, it’s enough to put you off your food.Mum: Oh leave him be, Joe, it’s the treatment.
